About
We started at dusk and decided to stay.
A converted warehouse, a borrowed piano, twelve people who were done pretending. That was 2014. The lamps are still lit.
The story
Elena Voss invited a handful of friends to pray after work in a rented hall on Harbor Lane. They called it service because that was when they could come. The name outlived the joke.
We bought the warehouse in 2017, knocked a hole in the roof for the windows, and learned how to be a parish: baptisms in a cattle trough, funerals in the courtyard, a pantry in the basement. We are not a brand. We are a congregation.
Northhaven has changed around us. We intend to remain — a people of Word and table, slow to hype and quick to set another place.
What we hold
Beliefs, without the brochure language
The story of Jesus
Jesus is God become flesh. He lived among us, died for our sin, rose from the dead, and reigns. The church is his body in the world until he returns.
Scripture
The Bible is the church’s book: inspired, trustworthy, and living. We read it aloud every week, and we let it read us.
A wide table
Grace is not a prize for the sorted. Communion is open to all who trust Christ. Doubt is welcome in the room; cynicism is invited to take a seat and listen.
The neighborhood
We are not a concert venue with a parking lot. We belong to Northhaven — its tables, schools, shelters, and streets — and we intend to stay.
The long obedience
Faith is formed slowly: prayer, repentance, friendship, the poor, the sacraments. We are uninterested in hype and very interested in becoming people of peace.

Plays the guitar, sometimes fixes stuff
Michael Spencer
I've heard rumors that Michael plays the guitar, but he likes jeeps and probably rides in a motorcycle gang, so that story might not hold water.
Youth Pastor
Sky Walkingstick
Sky used to be in the military, but he got tired of shooting people and decided to bring folks to God instead. So naturally we put him in charge of the kids.
Elders & staff
We are governed by a board of elders drawn from the congregation, and served by coordinators for Harbor Kids, Mercy, and The Table. If you need a name, write hello@compassion.church — we will not send you a maze.
